Classical Brits Award Winner Gives Her Support (May 22, 2009)
FEMALE CLASSICAL BRITS AWARD WINNER 2009
The Lincolnshire Hospitals Band is thrilled to announce that Alison Balsom, the winner of the above award, has agreed to become the Patron of the Lincolnshire Hospitals Junior Band.
At the age of seven, Alison began playing the cornet with the Royston (Herts) Youth Band. Her dedication to learning and to play was recognised and soon Alison was promoted to play with the senior Royston Town Band.
By the time Alison was thirteen her playing was good enough for her to be accepted to the Guildhall School of Music Junior Department and progressed from the cornet to the trumpet. Since then Alison has become one of the world's best players of music composed for the Trumpet, giving concerts in many countries throughout the world. This was recognised on the 14th May this year at the Royal Albert Hall, where Alison won the prestigious Female Classical Brit Award.
Alison is an inspiration to all young musicians and it is recognised that by joining a Junior Brass Band at an early age gives young people an interest and motivation to learn how to read music and play a musical instrument. Music is an International Language and can be a Passport for employment or just enjoyment throughout the world.
The Lincolnshire Hospitals Band has a growing Junior Band and invites anybody who wishes to come and see what we are all about. Weekly practice evenings are on Mondays at 6 30 pm in the rooms adjacent to the Lincolnshire County Hospital Social Club, St Anne's Road Lincoln. Tuition and the loan of instruments is free.
