Michael was born in
Lincoln into a Salvation Army family, attending school at Westgate. He attended the Salvation Army and played trombone and euphonium in the band and also sang in the Songsters at
Lincoln Burton Road, where he was the Singing Company Leader for seven years. In addition to this he also played in several other bands in the
Lincolnshire area. He joined the Lincolnshire Hospitals Band in 1984, being the longest serving musician, in which he has played euphonium, trombone and for the last six years he has been playing the Eb bass. Michael’s most treasured memory was playing with the Salvation Army International Staff band in Gainsborough under the direction of Bernard Adams and playing under Eric Ball at Lincoln Citadel.

After 32½ years Michael retired from the Health Service in 2008, but now continues to give his time working on the wards and clinics as a Health Care Support Worker.

Michael is married to Sarah and has 2 daughters, 1 son, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
